SPORTS
in the Air Training Corps
____________________

The Air Training Corps offers a broad range of sporting activities to cadets, allowing you to represent your Squadron, Wing, Region, and even go all the way to represent the Corps in the national competitions against Army and Sea Cadets. 2187 (Canvey Island) Squadron has done very well in recent years: if you take a look below, you'll get an idea of what we have competed on and how we have done.

The ATC also offers RAF-run courses for both cadets and staff to gain qualifications in such things as Community Sports Leader Course, Athletics Officials, Rugby and Netball Referees. Famous sportmen such as Linford Christie, Rory Underwood and Geoff Capes are all former Air Cadets.

Athletics

The Essex Wing Inter-Squadron Athletics Competition is held each year between the 28 Squadrons in Essex Wings, and covers most of the track and field events.

Athletics is split into the following categories with trophies awarded for each: Class 'A' Boys, Class 'B' Boys, Class 'C' Boys, Junior Girls, Senior Girls. There is also a trophy for Overall Winners, this being the main prize.

In 2005 we came 1st in the Class B Boys and 1st in Senior Girls overall, 2187 Squadron gained 2nd place.

Several cadets have now gone on to represent Essex Wing in the London & South East Region competition.

Rugby

Cadets from 2187 Squadron have represented both Essex Wing and London & South East Region, and one of our cadets was the captain of the London & South East Region rugby team in 2005.

Football

In 2005, 2187 Squadron came 2nd in the Essex Wing Inter-Squadron competition, and several cadets later represented Essex Wing in the London & South East Region competition.

Cross-Country

In the 2004 Essex Wing competition, we came 1st place in Junior Boys and 1st place in Senior Girls.
